Annabel Scheme is a short novella that I wrote and printed with the support of a posse of patrons—around 600 people just like you! (You can learn more about the process by scoping out that link or flipping through these posts.)
It’s a story about a Sherlock Holmes for the 21st century. Holmes is a woman, Watson is an AI, all the good cases are on the internet, and something very strange has happened to San Francisco…
(Music credit: Demonic With Horns by the terrific Boy Eats Drum Machine.)
There are about a thousand copies of the physical book out there in the world, but you can get a digital version right here. I’ve released it under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 US license, so you’re free to make copies and use the story, characters and/or text in your own work.
As I mentioned, it’s short—128 paperback pages. You could probably read it in an afternoon, or even on a long lunch break if you’re quick!
Okay, so here are your options:
- See it in Google’s PDF viewer (good for reading on the screen)
- Download the standard PDF (good for the Kindle)
- Download the two-page spread PDF (good for printing at 8.5″ × 11″)
Here are some amazing 3D renderings of Annabel Scheme’s San Francisco by Emily Cooper, also funded by the book’s backers.
Finally, here’s a fun gallery of images of the physical book. Thanks to everyone who bought a copy, and thanks to you for checking this out!
I started reading Annabel Scheme today at lunch and this is my first delve into transhumanism. Ok, if you count the Matrix movies, and Ghost in the Shell, not exactly my first. It is not as weird or hard to grasp the concept of that I thought it was going to be. I can’t WAIT to get back to the story. I think it’s going to be devoured tonight! Thank you and please write more!
